A Visit to Bookay-Ukay

I've been meaning to check out Bookay-Ukay, a second hand bookstore, ever since my friend showed me their Facebook page. I just love going through shelf after shelf of old (and sometimes new) books in second hand bookstores. It's like finding that old, tattered, gem of a book I'm going to adopt. I never really had the time to visit (and the capacity?) but luckily though I got the chance to drop by today!

Forgive my camera phone's shots, I'm too lazy to Photoshop them to make them look decent.

The store's small but I think it adds to the charm. Just the sight of unorganized stacks of books everywhere got me excited! Another thing I liked is their green wall filled with random artwork, posters, and writings.

Books. Everywhere. And I helped contribute to the clutter when I accidentally knocked a few books off the shelf and couldn't put them back (as pictured below, don't know if you can tell the difference, really. Some books were already on the floor when I came). Wooo watch out we have a bad ass over here!

I didn't want to leave without buying anything so I picked out this Nicholas Sparks book.

I'm usually opposed to books with the movie tie-in cover but this is the best copy I could find. Its original price in National Bookstore is 315php but I was able to buy it for 150php. I've heard a lot of bad reviews of this book (fine. Just my siblings') but I bought it anyway. It might be my cup of tea, after all. Nights in Rodanthe is actually the first Nicholas Sparks book on my shelf. I've read The Notebook, and The Wedding but those were just borrowed copies. If I happen to not like this, then... I don't know. I'd take comfort in knowing I bought it a very low price. It's still in pretty good condition, except for the spine but I can live with that. At least the pages are still complete. Unlike the copy of The Giver which lacked the last three pages. Meh. I can't complain. I was in a second hand bookstore.

Overall, I enjoyed the alone time I had in Bookay-Ukay. I got a better look at all the books they had. Alright, not all. But most of their merchandise, especially the ones not in their Facebook page. I can't wait to go back.

Be sure to check out their Facebook page. ;-)
Before you even say it, no, I'm not being paid to do this. I just want fellow book nerds (and cheapskates) to get as excited as I was when I first found out about this place. Tee hee.

Wednesday, I Swear.

This post is book related. Trust me.

I'll be away on a retreat from Monday til Wednesday. That means I won't be able to attend my Wednesday classes (I don't have classes on Mondays and Tuesdays) so I asked one of my classmates to submit my homework for me. I'm supposed to be doing it now because I have to email it before going to bed but my brain is being whiny. I figured I'll blog first to get some sort of momentum (but really I'm just procrastinating). Hey, it's for my Philosophy class - I need the momentum.

I was supposed to write a review of The Perfect Game by J. Sterling but for some reason I can't upload a photo here. I don't know if it's Blogger's or my laptop's fault. Being the (selective) OC that I am, I don't want to post a review without a photo so I decided to put off the writing til Wednesday. I just hope I don't lose the feeling* when I get back from the retreat. I happen to like The Perfect Game a lot! So I'm pretty excited to post a review. Squeeee!

Okay I really need to do my paper. I only have a few hours left before my alarm goes off.

Good night. ;-)

*the feeling - that moment after reading a book when you remember clearly why you love/like/dislike it that writing about it should be a breeze.

Book Review: Awkward by Marni Bates

Synopsis: Mackenzie Wellesley has spent her life avoiding the spotlight. At Smith High, she's the awkward junior people only notice when they need help with homework. Until she sends a burly football player flying with her massive backpack and makes a disastrous - not to mention unwelcome - attempt at CPR. Before the day is out, the whole fiasco explodes on YouTube. And then the strangest thing happens. Suddenly, Mackenzie is an Internet sensation, with four million hits and counting. Sucked into a whirlwind of rock stars, paparazzi, and free designer clothes, she even catches the eye of the most popular guy at school. And that's when life gets really interesting...

Bare Site

I'm redesigning my blog. I planned to do it today but my mom texted me to say she'll be picking me up in a while. We're watching Breaking Dawn. Oh okay.

Hopefully I can get home earlier and I can continue this. Later!

Currently Reading: The Mark of Athena (The Heroes of Olympus #3)

I quit reading The Summons because I thought it was boring. But that doesn't mean I won't ever open it again. I'll give it another shot someday. Right now I want some light, fun reading and The Mark of Athena is The One.

I've read all books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, so falling in love with the sequel was pretty easy. Although my biggest problem as of now is the idea of a Roman camp. I felt like it lost some of the magic from the previous series. But nonetheless, I'm still enjoying the books from The Heroes of Olympus series, particularly The Mark of Athena... mostly because I love seeing (or rather reading about...) Percy and Annabeth together again. They're such an easygoing couple. Powerful too.

Anyway this isn't a review yet given that I'm only 69% done with the book (thank you Goodreads tracker) so I haven't formed much of an opinion about it, really. I'll be back once I'm done with the book. Hopefully I can finish before school starts on Tuesday. I really want to post something before I start my semester because I'm pretty sure I won't be able to update my blog again for months once I bury myself in books and extra-curricular activities. *sigh*

Bye for now
